Who we are

What is Agita Mundo Network?

Official logoOfficial logoThe purpose of the Agita Mundo Network is to promote physical activity as a healthy behavior for people of all around the world. The Agita Mundo Network stimulates research, encourage the dissemination of information on the health benefits of physical activity and effective strategies to increase physical activity, advocate for physical activity and health, and support the development of national and local programs and networks for physical activity promotion.
As a consequence of the impressive impact of World Day for Health – 2002, celebrated on behalf of Physical Activity (Agita Mundo / Move for Health), Agita Mundo Network was launched on October 2002, when a group of institutions, representing different parts of the World approved the “Declaration from São Paulo to Promote Physical Activity in the World”. The main purpose is to promote physical activity around the world, with a central focus on translating theory into practices.

Structure

The Centers of Studies of the Physical Fitness Research Laboratory, from São Caetano do Sul – CELAFISCS has served as the central office, and four committees were established: Advocacy, Capacity Building, Research and Self-Sustainance. Agita Mundo Network collaborates and acts in conjunction with the regional/continental Networks, such as:

  • Physical Activity Network of Americas (PANA/RAFA)
  • HEPA Europe, African Physical Activity Network (APAN)
  • and the Asia Pacific Physical Activity Network (AP-PAN)

Specific objetives of Agita Mundo Network

  1. Advocate for physical activity and health through an annual Move for Health Day, other community based and community wide events, and informing policy makers of the importance of physical activity to public policy.
  2. Widely disseminate a clear, simple and consistently delivered message on the health and social benefits of at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity every day.
  3. Stimulate the creation of regional and international networks for physical activity promotion and provide linkages between these networks.
  4. Promote and disseminate about innovative approaches to develop alliances around the world to promote physical activity and good health.
  5. Share good practices and effective strategies and programs through websites, meetings, workshops and publications.
